Medicare Questions
When should I start thinking about Medicare? +
We recommend starting 6 to 7 months before your 65th birthday. Your Initial Enrollment Period opens 3 months before your birth month, and early planning gives you time to understand all your options without pressure or rushed decisions.
What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement? +
Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare and is provided by a private insurer. It often includes drug coverage and extra benefits like dental and vision, but uses a provider network. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare — it does not replace it — and helps pay costs Original Medicare leaves behind, like deductibles and coinsurance. The right choice depends on your health situation, budget, and how you use healthcare.
Can I be penalized for enrolling late? +
Yes. Late enrollment in Medicare Part B and Part D can result in permanent premium penalties that last as long as you have Medicare. There are exceptions for people with qualifying employer coverage. We strongly recommend reviewing your specific situation with a licensed agent before your enrollment window closes.
ACA Questions
When can I enroll in an ACA plan? +
The main enrollment window is the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), typically November 1 through January 15 for coverage starting the following January. Outside of OEP, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period based on qualifying life events such as losing other coverage, getting married, having a child, or moving.
How do I know if I qualify for a subsidy? +
Subsidy eligibility is primarily based on your estimated household income relative to the Federal Poverty Level. Many people qualify for the Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC), which can significantly reduce your monthly premium. A licensed agent can help you estimate your eligibility during a free consultation — no obligation to enroll.
Do I have to use a specific doctor or hospital? +
It depends on the plan. HMO plans generally require you to use in-network providers and get referrals for specialists. PPO plans offer more flexibility with out-of-network options. We will help you verify that your current doctors and medications are covered before you choose a plan.
